Owner Surrender

The Randolph County Humane Society's primary goal is to rescue animals from municipal animal control facilities where they face sure death.  We accept a limited number of animals surrendered by the public.  Acceptance is based on space availability, breed, health and disposition.  We must often turn animals away because we simply don't have the resources available to care for them all.  We must charge a surrender fee for each animal that we accept.  Surrender fee's are used to cover costs incurred for the spay or neuter of each animal as required by law.    The surrender fees are as follows:

Dog-$50    Dog with pups or a litter of pups-$150

Cat-$35    Cat with kittens or a litter of kittens-$75.

Due to the number of animals entering and departing our facility, infectious disease is always a concern.  We require proof of vaccination for the safety of the animals.  If your pet has not been vaccinated, you will be asked to have your veterinarian do so before we will accept the animal into our facility.  There is a 15 day post vaccination waiting period so your pet will have time to acquire immunity before entering the shelter.  Extremely ill animals or animals with behavioral problems may be declined.  We have a special program available for a limited number of senior or special needs pets who meet our eligibility requirements. You will likely be put on a waiting list, so please inquire well in advance.

We expect pet owners to take responsibility for finding their pet a new home before bringing it to our shelter.  Our space is limited.  You may be placed on a waiting list. While you are waiting for an opening, we suggest running ads in local papers,  putting up flyers at area businesses, and talking with local veterinarians.  We are happy to assist owners by placing photographs of the pet on our website, petfinder.com, and by adding photos to our available for adoption photo album.  We prefer to either adopt out or transport pets directly from their original home.  Surrender fees are waived if we can do so.

If you have a pet to surrender, do not wait until you absolutely must get rid of it...plan ahead and give us the opportunity to help place the animal in a loving, forever home...this takes time!

ANY ANIMAL LEFT OUTSIDE THE SHELTER THAT HAS NOT BEEN PROCESSED THROUGH OUR INTAKE IS CONSIDERED A STRAY AND MUST BE TURNED OVER TO ANIMAL CONTROL WHERE THEY MAY BE EUTHANIZED!
